The first 500 HP LNG trucks are proving their worth in Poland

14.02.2025

LNG drive in trucks with another milestone. For several months, Volvo trucks powered by natural gas with a record power of 500 HP have been available for order. Test drives in Poland also showed record low fuel consumption , which for a distance of 50,000 km amounted to only 15.2 kg of LNG per 100 kilometers. Additional ecological benefits may be brought by powering with renewable bioLNG.

LNG fuelling in road transport has gained momentum with the appearance on the market of tractor units with power above 400 HP . Such LNG trucks are no longer inferior in power and work culture to diesel tractor units. However, the latest designs with power of 500 HP extend the versatility of trucks powered by liquefied natural gas even further. Soon, the Polish offer will also include equally powerful Iveco S-Way with power of 500 HP and Scania Super with power of 460 HP.

The Volvo FH LNG in customer test drives required only 15.2 kg of natural gas to cover 100 kilometres. This good result is an average of tests carried out by 10 transport companies over a distance of 50,000 kilometres. Along with the new engine, a larger LNG tank is also installed in the Volvo, which allows it to cover over 900 kilometres on one tank of LNG.

bioLNG will enable even greater environmental benefits for the Volvo FH 500 LNG. Natural gas operation already reduces CO2 emissions by 20% compared to diesel operation. The use of liquefied biomethane in the cadastral dimension allows for completely emission-free driving, just like in the case of electric trucks.

Volvo's new LNG-powered truck demonstrates the potential of natural gas as an attractive, ecological and economical alternative to diesel engines. The Volvo FH500 Aero LNG is a modern truck that allows comfortable and cost-effective travel across Europe using the latest multimedia and telematics. With the imminent introduction of bioLNG at fuel stations, zero emissions will go hand in hand with the latest solutions in truck transport.
